Authorities said that properties worth millions of Kenyan shillings were lost in the tragedy.

Narok County is located some 100 km from the nation’s capital, Nairobi.

The Narok County commissioner, Arthur Osiya, said that heavy rains have hindered rescue efforts by the authorities, adding that operations would cease until weather conditions improve.

The Kenyan police and members of the Red Cross Society were among the earliest rescue teams to gain access to the area and are still on ground.

The meteorological department has also warned Kenyan residents that heavy rains will persist till May and has urged them to be extra careful.
